Wonderful Winter Chili Recipe

I have recently had an obsession….. Chili. Now the weird part about this is that I used to only eat chili when it was served to me at other people houses out of respect.  Beans, they just weren’t my thing.  It’s not that I despised Chili or beans, they just didn’t bring joy to my taste buds.  But, now, it’s like I can’t get enough of it. Of course, the older I get I find my palette is much more diverse. Also, it’s Winter and Chili happens to be the go to Winter cuisine.  The other plus about my chili recipe is that I throw it all in a crockpot in the morning and by evening it’s ready to add my favorite toppings to and enjoy!


1 Tbsp of olive oil

1 Tbsp of brown sugar

1 Medium onion

2.5 lbs of ground hamburger

2 Cans of petite diced tomatoes

1 Can of dark red kidney beans

1 Can of light red kidney beans

1 Can of tomato sauce

1 Packet of chili seasoning



Put olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Once oil is hot place onions and brown sugar in the pan and sauté for about 3 minutes. Add hamburger meat to the pan with onions and brown.  Once the hamburger meat is done take contents of pan and dump into your crockpot.  I use these crockpot liners, they make for an easy cleanup after dinner!  On top of the hamburger meat add your chili seasoning and mix well. To the crockpot add the petite diced tomatoes, both light and dark kidney beans, and the can of tomato sauce. Stir the entire contents of the crockpot thoroughly.  Place your crockpot on low for 8 hours.

When dinner time comes around enjoy your chili with your favorite toppings and cornbread.  Some of my family’s favorites are diced raw onions, shredded cheese, and sour cream.
